Why Oriole and Crab?
Because of the Baltimore Oriole
and Maryland crabs. You'll have to ask my wife how she came up with the
name if you want more then that.
Do I have to stay in Maryland?
No, you may plan any route you
wish. However, all bonus locations will
be in the state of Maryland so if you find yourself getting answers in Virginia
you’re in the wrong rally. Also if you
wish a Maryland SS100 you will have to stay in the state.
What kinds of roads will I be
on?
There should be no gravel roads,
unless you want to take one. Any
bonuses on gravel roads will be listed as such. However, Maryland has less the 500 miles of Interstates, that
will make the rally much more interesting.
Is there a base route?
There is no base route, but there
will be mandatory checkpoints. The
shortest route will be around 800 miles.
How many laps around Maryland
is 800 miles?
Only one. Between the four checkpoints is just over
800 miles. While there will be some overlap in roads, the majority of those
miles will be in the western part of the state along I-68 and US 40. Other then that there is no need for going
over the same roads unless you want to.
Can I earn a SS1000/MD1000?
Yes you may. We have been informed that if you complete
1000 miles during the rally you will be able to obtain an SS1000 certificate if
you wish. You will have to submit the
paperwork, but not the receipts and log.
Please tell the Rallymaster if you wish to earn any IBA certificates.
Will we be given a route for
the SS1000/MD1000?
We can give you a suggestion for
the route, but you may have to change it to suit your needs.
Why the change in location?
Two reasons. First the hotels in Frederick were either
very expensive, well over $100, and unwilling to co-operate, or not that great. Secondly, I am expecting a second child a
few weeks before the rally so I wanted to be closer to home.
